When we first departed Florida in June of 2019, we had one Maine goal. That’s no typo, our goal was to get to Maine and go to Acadia National Park! For years we had heard of the beauty of Acadia. On our journey up the East coast, we used mostly Thousand Trails parks in order to keep our travel costs lower. So we were staying in those parks for our 2 weeks free and then paying for a week outside of their system somewhere along our route. Our goal of getting to Acadia National Park was so important to us. Even though we stayed at the “Narrows Too” campground, located in Trenton, Maine, and that park being apart of the Thousand Trails network, we opted to PAY for a site so that we could be sure to be right on the water. It turned out to be such a beautiful RV site! Our site backed right up to the water and looked out to Cadillac Mountain, the tallest mountain in Acadia. The view of the mountain was spectacular and the playful seals right out of our backyard had us in stitches!

Acadia consists of over 48,000 acres of beautiful rocky coastline on Mount Desert Island in Eastern Maine. The national park contains 26 mountains, the tallest of which is Cadillac Mountain at 1530 feet in elevation. Though smaller, some of the other most popular mountains are Pemetic Mountain at 1245 feet in elevation and the “Bubble Mountains” just off of Jordan Pond.

Acadia offers so much beauty. We highly recommend driving the Park Loop Road. The Park Loop Road is a 27 mile road along the Eastern side of Mount Desert Island and it offers some of the best scenic ocean views in the country. Every turn we made, we found ourselves talking about how it was even more beautiful than the previous. We stopped at numerous points to walk around and take photos and videos of the gorgeous coastline.

The Park Loop Road is a great way to see a lot of the most popular points. Just off the road is Thunder Hole, which is a semi-submerged cave that fills with rolling waves to create a loud thundering sound. This one seemed to be a favorite with the kids.

Cadillac Mountain is a must see at Acadia. There is a road that takes you all the way to the top. At the top, not only will you find 360 degree views around the entire park, you will also find several hiking trails and a gift shop. This is where we purchased our souvenirs…which are something that are almost a requirement when visiting a national park. Thankfully, with living in an RV, we don’t have room for many trinkets so our big thing is national park stickers. We picked up our very first national park sticker at Acadia!

No trip to Acadia National Park is complete without a trip to Jordan Pond. This scene is what many people think of when they think of Acadia. I mean, come on can you blame them? Just look at this!

Acadia National Park - Jordan Pond

There is a great hiking trail that goes around the pond and several offshoot trails that go up to the top of the Bubble Mountains. We did both. Do be careful though as the Bubble Mountain trails can be a bit intense if you’re not used to hiking and there are also several spots on the Jordan Pond loop that are very muddy. At the end of our hike around Jordan Pond, we stopped for a late lunch at the restaurant called The Jordan Pond House. If the beautiful view of Jordan Pond with the Bubble Mountains in the background isn’t enough for you, the great food at the end of the trail will be!

All in all, Acadia was everything we expected it to be and more! Since leaving Maine, we have often spoken of going back and spending even more time in Acadia. Both Acadia, and Maine itself have a very special place in our hearts.
