Passport America is another discount camping membership program. At the time of writing, it costs less than $50 per year. Is it worth it? How does it work? What can you expect? We go into all the details with our experience using Passport America over the last few years!
If you have been following our travels for any length of time, you know we are fulltime RVers and use several discount camping memberships to help us get great rates on our campgrounds. This allows us to continue the fulltime RV lifestyle. I venture to say that without the discount camping memberships, it would be dang near impossible for most full time RV families to travel the way we do.
Passport America is a camping membership that allows the members to get campsites for half price. These campgrounds are in literally every state. Mostly, we have seen that the campgrounds allow the use of the PA discount for anywhere between 1 to 4 nights and most allow use of the discount during certain months and on weekdays mostly. The quality of the campgrounds varies greatly. You will find campgrounds that normally would cost $30 a night for $15…and you will find some that normally cost $100/night for only $50/night.
We have used our Passport America card a LOT. it comes in very handy when you are on a long trip and just need a quick stop somewhere for the night. Think about this, at less than $50 per year for the pass, just TWO NIGHTS per year in a campground that normally costs $50/day more than pays for the entire year of the membership. In 2021, we renewed our membership for the year and promptly left the west coast to start back east. We had several one night stops and used our passport america to get them all for half price. By the second night our membership had paid for itself for the year. On that trip alone, the membership paid for itself several times over.
So is it worth it? Absolutely yes. Pro tip….read about the parks on the Passport America site to find out all of the details on the use of them membership. They tell you on the site when and how the membership can be used at every park.
